The Second City Raises Money for Planned Parenthood

The Second City is known for their hilarious shows and their newest show, The Second City’s 100th revue, Who Do We Think We Are?, is no exception. The show dives into the many political issues government has faced recently such as politics of race, identity, and sexuality. Featuring familiar characters such as President Barack Obama, Mitt Romney, Rick Santorum, and Ann Coulter, the show explores the good, the bad and the ridiculous that makes us uniquely American. And, most excitingly for Planned Parenthood – The Second City has chosen to donate money raised during the show to support Planned Parenthood of Illinois!

As you all know, Planned Parenthood and women’s issues took a front seat in the 2012 election and continue to be a dominant political issue. It would be difficult to leave us out of a political comedy show so The Second City chose to incorporate us into it.

Midway through the show the audience is propositioned. Whoever gives the most money has the choice of topic for an entirely improvised skit performed by the cast. After the bids have been collected and the winner chosen, it is announced the money will be donated to Planned Parenthood of Illinois, “whether you like it or not!”

The show has been running for four months and has raised more than $16,000 for Planned Parenthood of Illinois - very exciting! This Thursday, January 10 we will be attending the 8pm show where The Second City will present us with their generous donation. We are incredibly honored to accept this gift and can’t wait to watch the show (for the second, third, or fourth times for some staff members!). We encourage you to join us on Thursday at 8pm to enjoy the show and moment with us – just buy your tickets online. If you are unable to make it to the January 10 show, we encourage you to check out The Second City’s 100 Revue: Who Do You Think We Are another time for guaranteed laughs!

We cannot express enough how grateful we are for The Second City’s support. All the money donated will go towards our mission to provide comprehensive reproductive healthcare, sex education, and advocate to protect access to essential healthcare. Thank you to The Second City for believing in our mission and understanding that Planned Parenthood of Illinois will be here for Illinois women, men, and teens, no matter what!
