We are also thankful for all our support in schools, community groups, and organizations that invite us to provide medically accurate, age appropriate, and comprehensive sex education to young people who wouldn’t have had access to this type of education.
We are thankful that women in the United States have reproductive rights that allow them a safe and healthy pregnancy, access to all types of contraception, and the right to have safe and legal abortions. We are thankful for the Affordable Care Act, which has vastly expanded women’s access to copay-free preventive health care—including contraception, cancer screenings, HIV testing, and other essential services.
We are also thankful that Planned Parenthood Illinois Action has been able to play such a large role in supporting pro-choice and pro-family planning candidates. But we are even more thankful that our supporters went out to the polls and voted for pro-choice and pro-family candidates!
We are thankful that the 113th Congress will be the most diverse in US history. We can all be thankful that we have President Barack Obama, who stood by women and supported Planned Parenthood, for another four years.
This year Planned Parenthood's strength was tested, being directly in the limelight throughout the entire 2012 election cycle. We could not be thankful for all we have without politician’s state and nationwide who have supported our organization and what we stand for. Despite the challenges we have faced and are continuing to battle, Planned Parenthood will be here no matter what, and we will always be thankful to our supporters who have made that possible.
