Candidate Spotlight: Mike Smiddy for State Representative 71st District

Mike Smiddy
Illinois House, 71st District

Mike Smiddy is 100% pro-choice and he has been endorsed by Planned Parenthood Illinois Action.

Issues: Economic Development – Job Retention Plan, Worker Rights, Bring Down State Budget Deficit, and Education

Biography: Working at age 15 for a small family owned business in Silvis, Illinois. My parents taught me at an early age the importance of a hard day's work. They instilled in me that when others trusted in my abilities that it was my responsibility not to let them down. I was honored that in 1993 I was offered a job with Congressman Lane Evans district staff. During those next 8 plus years of working for Lane it helped me understand the importance of public service and standing up for those who could not stand up for themselves.

Our campaign will be based on a grassroots organizing effort, focusing on the issues that are important to the Illinois families. This means ensuring that we have a strong economic development and job retention plan, maintaining worker’s rights, and creating sound fiscal policies to help bring down our state’s rising budget deficit. And finally, to ensure the best education for our children, so they will be prepared to compete in our global economy.

Currently, I live in rural Hillsdale, Illinois on my wife Deb's family farm. Deb and I have been married for 9 years and have two children, Logan and Ian.
