Spotlight on PPIA-endorsed Candidate, Michele Smith

The 2011 Chicago Municipal runoff elections are taking place on April 5th.  Do you know the pro-choice candidates?

Planned Parenthood Illinois Action, the the non-partisan political and advocacy arm of Planned Parenthood of Illinois, endorses candidates who are proven supporters of women’s health care. In order to protect reproductive rights and health in Illinois, we must elect legislators who will stand with us.

Michele Smith, a candidate for Alderman in the 43rd Ward, has had a long career in both the public and private sector - first at the U.S. Attorney's Office, then as a corporate attorney and working mother.  According to her website bio, she has lived in Lincoln Park since 1979 and served as Democratic Committeeman of the 43rd ward since 2008.

Michele Smith is 100% pro-choice and endorsed by Planned Parenthood Illinois Action.  As Alderman, she will stand up for the women of Chicago.  She will work to protect reproductive rights and ensure access to reproductive health care.  To learn more about her campaign or volunteer opportunities, visit her website here.  To follow her on Facebook, click here.

Any particular reason why PPIA has chosen to endorse an aldermanic candidate when there are so many more pressing needs at the state and federal level? Especially when both candidates are pro choice?
It seems to me PPIA would have done more research into the ethical standards and campaign practices of both candidates before endorsing a candidate. Unless of course, being a woman is the only major qualification that ensures a PPIA endorsement.

How can this candidate take credit for endorsement when PPIA has actually endorsed both candidates?http://www.plannedparenthoodactionillinois.org/campaigns/endorsed_campaigns.php

Trying to mislead the voting public is always wrong and really says something about the character of the candidate as well as her desperation!

In order to receive an endorsement from PPIA, candidates must fill out a PPIA questionnaire and his or her answers must be 100% pro-choice. To see a full list of PPIA's endorsed candidates, visit: http://www.plannedparenthoodactionillinois.org/campaigns/endorsed_campaigns.php
