Illinois Republican Representatives Stand Up For Women
Last week, the U.S. House of Representatives passed Rep. Mike Pence’s (R-IN, 6th District) amendment to bar Planned Parenthood from receiving federal funds for any purpose, including providing basic primary and lifesaving preventive health care to women and families. Rep. Pence offered the amendment to the FY11 Continuing Resolution, which completely eliminates the national family planning program, Title X.
It now falls to Senators from both parties to join together to reject this extreme approach, restore common sense, and guarantee that Planned Parenthood and the millions of Americans who count on us for health care are protected.
Despite our outrage over the passage of this amendment, we are extremely grateful to Representative Robert Dold (R-IL, 10th District) and Representative Judy Biggert (R-IL, 13th District) for voting against the Pence Amendment. They had the courage to stand up for women who rely on these critical services. Thank you, Rep. Dold and Rep. Biggert!
Rep. Dold not only voted against the Pence Amendment, he also spoke out on the floor to express his support for the Title X program and the essential health care services it provides to women:
