Rally Against "Doomsday" Budget: Thursday, June 18th in Chicago

Rally for a Responsible Budget

When: Thursday, June 18th, 2009 at 11:30am
Where: Thompson Center, 100 W. Randolph, Chicago, IL

The "doomsday" budget cuts that were approved by the Illinois General Assembly are set to go into effect on July 1, 2009. This is a serious crisis for Illinoisans, especially women. For example:

- State funding will be cut by 75% for family planning, teen pregnancy prevention, sexual assault services, domestic violence prevention, teen parenting, and school health centers

- Budget cuts mean the loss of homecare workers for 40,000 seniors and persons with disabilities, and the loss of more than 100,000 jobs.
- 80,000 low-income working mothers will lose childcare.

- Other vital community programs such as drug rehabilitation and violence prevention programs are also on the chopping block.

In this time of economic crisis, these cuts would be absolutely devastating. The Governor is meeting with the Democratic and Republican legislative leadership this week. Join in on the multi-organization emergency call to action in an effort to press legislators to exert TRUE leadership and protect these vital programs! Attend the rally on Thursday, June 18th at 11:30AM!
