UPDATE: Teenwire Stays

Well, it's not exactly current news anymore, but for those of you that were paying attention to the recent hullabaloo in Batavia, we'd like to make sure you're aware that the Batavia Library Board decided to keep the link to the award-winning website, teenwire.org. Kudos to all the teenwire supporters for making the case for access to accurate, age-appropriate information for teens!

You may recall that the issue started with a handful of residents who claimed that teenwire.org was inappropriate. The library board made a decision to keep the link, and after an appeal was made by those opposing it, the library board opened up the issue for public comment. Residents of Batavia and folks from surrounding areas came out to voice their opinion.

Luckily, reason prevailed and the site will remain a link on the library's Web Reference page!

Yes, but they moved it from the Young Adult Teen page, where it had high visibility, to a sub-sub category of the general Reference page, where no teen is ever likely to find it. Since the Batavia site has no search function, this effectively buries it.

True, it's better that they kept it _somplace_on the library website, but for all practical purposes, the fundies won.
