Happy 35th Anniversary Roe v. Wade!

Today is the 35th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, the landmark Supreme Court decision guaranteeing women the right to choose. While this milestone gives us cause to celebrate (you can join us in celebrating Roe, this Thursday at the Ritz Carlton in downtown Chicago - purchase your tickets here), it's also a powerful reminder that the struggle to protect women's health and safety continues.

We wrote last week about some of the barriers that low income women, and women who live far from a provider face once they've made a decision to terminate a pregnancy. Today the Chicago Tribune has published a great article about the Chicago Abortion Fund that further speaks to those challenges.

Gaylon Alcaraz, director of the Chicago Abortion Fund, points out that "Abortion is legal, but low-income women still can't access it." The Chicago Abortion fund plays a critical role in helping women to access abortion by providing vouchers to help pay for the procedure. The Tribune article is a definite must read for anyone interested in the role that economics plays in the struggle for reproductive rights. Once you've checked out the article, learn more about the Chicago Abortion Fund by visiting their website.

In case you're interested here's a great place to read more about the history and impact of Roe.
