Update on Safeway/Dominick's and harrassment of patients

We just got a report from our health center staff that right now in Aurora a man is photographing our patients' license plates and taking notes as they come to their appointments at our center. This man was seen speaking with Ann Scheidler, who is the wife of Joe Scheidler, head of the Pro-life Action League. It's clear these people are set on intimidating our patients and all from the lot owned by Safeway/Dominick's.

If you can't get through to Dominick's on their local number, I suggest you give a call to Safeway's VP of Public Affairs, Brian Dowling. Brian's number is 925-467-3000.

Thanks for your help!

This is crazy -- I hope if someone gets harassed or hurt they sue Safeway corporation for being a part of it.

A call to Safeway told me that you have to contact the store manager directly and have them work through loss prevention. They can't do anything through corporate at this time.

Actually, how about getting the word out through national blogs to call Safeway? A ton of calls may make corporate rethink their "hands off" approach.

OT: What about the crosses the anti's have tied to the trees along the parkway on Oakhurst Drive? Today I drove by around 1:30, then again at 2:30. There was only 1 or 2 people on the sidewalk adjacent to Oakhurst Drive (excluding the 3-4 I saw on the vacant property). I see these crosses every time I drive by. Are they left there overnight? Anyone know about the permitting process for this?

ST: As far as the crosses go they are using a loophole in the law that allows for people to put up roadside memorials for people who die in car crashes. So far the police and city have said that they aren't going to stop them.

I just called Safeway corporate. They asked for my 'club card' number before they would talk to me, and my city & state. But, I let her know that I'm a Planned Parenthood volunteer (which I am proud to be) and that I'm calling to complain that the anti-choicers who have set up shop on Safeway property are intimidating women by taking down plate #s and taking photos. She said she would pass it along... more people need to call! They need to be flooded with calls. Women do not deserve this crap.

Someone should do likewise. Watch the man until he goes to his car and then write down/take a picture of his license plate. I wonder how they'd feel if the tables were turned? Why doesn't someone challenge this man or at the very least ask him his name and his affiliation with any organization?

This is purely speculation but the man may be part of that awful website The Nuremberg Files which specializes in taking videos and photographs of not only patients, but clinic staff and escorts as well.

As noted in this post, Safeway does in fact own that lot.
