Up to Safeway/Dominick's to stop patient harassment

More updates on the harassment of our patients at our new Aurora health center...

Check out this YouTube video in which Aurora City Attorney, Alayne Weingartz, makes it clear that it's up to the owner of the vacant lot adjacent to our health center to put an end to protesters using it as a base to harass our patients. Our staff in Aurora are reporting that protesters are using that lot to photograph our patients' license plates and are taking notes about our patients as they arrive at the center.

In the meantime, a quick internet search of the property ID number found (on the website of the DuPage County Recorder of Deeds) that the property in question was owned by Safeway until December of last year and that it was then transferred to a company called Vons REIT. At this web page you can see that Vons REIT is a subsidiary of Safeway. Interesting, that the city of Aurora, couldn't bother to spend a couple minutes to look up who owns that property.

In the video, Aurora City Attorney, Alayne Weingartz, also makes it clear that the only way we can remove the protesters is to get Safeway/Dominick's to send a letter to the city telling them they don't want the protesters on their private property.

Urge Safeway/Dominick's to stop hosting people who harass patients seeking health care! Women and families have a right to access health care without intimidation.

Please call both the local Dominick's store (the number for the local Dominick's is 630-236-0683) AND the national Safeway corporation's VP for Public Affairs (that number is 925-467-3000).

Urge them to tell the city of Aurora that they no longer want anti-choice protesters to use their property to intimidate patients.

Thank you!

In addition to calling Safeway and leaving a message, I've also forwarded this information to the great blog http://feministing.com/ in hopes that they'll help spread the word about what Dominick's/Safeway is allowing to happen.

I emailed Dominick's twice and Blockbuster. Dominick's sent an auto reply saying some department would looking into (public affairs?) and nobody got back to me. There were days where I couldn't park there and I just went to Jewel! Also Dominick's gave gifts to a baby shower that the pro lifers put on so they condone it.

If I'm not mistaken, hasn't there been legislation written up by Senator Durbin that never got out of committee initially to provide better client protection laws??? Maybe we need to send emails/faxes to get that back up on the table again.
