Why this blog?

The fight for women's access to reproductive health care has landed in Aurora, Illinois, a fast-growing city outside Chicago, where Planned Parenthood just built our newest health center. While Aurora is one of the fastest growing communities in Illinois, the availability of health care has not increased at the same pace. The new Aurora site is designed to provide for the reproductive health care needs of a rapidly growing, but not medically well-served area.

Politics have kept Planned Parenthood from opening our clinic on time, but we will not back down from our goal of providing safe, affordable health care to the people of Aurora and the surrounding neighborhoods. Political pressure has come from all of the usual suspects in the anti-choice fringe who have showed up in droves. Unfortunately, more people are protesting this clinic than we've seen in a very long time.

Fortunately, Planned Parenthood’s local volunteers, staff, donors and other supports have also stood with us in the fight to open the Aurora health clinic. Supports have volunteered their time, put signs on their lawns, donated money, and signed petitions to show that Aurora and the surround communities stand with Planned Parenthood in the fight for affordable health care and women’s rights.
