Back from the Rally

Waving to CarsThe rally has been totally exhilarating! At the height of it, we had about 250-300 people there and we outnumbered the anti-choice demonstrators by around 2 to 1. People driving by on the street were honking and waving and our chants and screams were the only thing that could be heard for blocks in any direction.

It's not over yet--our supports are still out there strong at Aurora City Hall waving signs and acting as a very visable (and audible) demonstration to Aurora city officials that we will not go away until the Aurora Health Center is open for business!

More commentary, images, video, and a report on the City Council meeting later. Stay tuned!

***Edit: Images from the rally are up on Flickr!***

I'm glad that the rally was invigorating... unfortunately, the City Council Meeting was not. Once again, the anti-choice brigade had their talking points handy, lawyers present coaching residents, and I don't know how they do it, but they stack the beginning of that list. The few pro-choice people who spoke were fabulous and articulate. I heard 29 people- it was capped at 4 hours and I was #110, no chance of speaking unless a couple dozen people gave up as well.

One thing that was really difficult to hear- that PP may have missed filing some important non-profit forms / procedures and therefore was truly "caught" not following the letter of the law. Supposedly, this information came out "today" and Every. Single. Anri-Choice. Person. Said. It. Over. And. Over. It was exhausting. Any word on what that was all about? I'm curious to know.

They also said those of us in pink t-shirts were "prostitues that don't get paid for it" and stated that PP wouldn't dispose of STD/HIV waste properly and would, thus, contaminate the ground water causing outbreaks throughout Aurora. WHAT A JOKE!
